About Me
I am passionate about supporting others through teaching, coaching and writing. I have worked in many roles in education across England and Scotland, from English teacher, to Head of Department, to an assistant headteacher in charge of Teaching and Learning. I now run the English PGDE at Edinburgh Napier University.
My Story
Experiencing burn-out in 2015 after working in leadership in a toxic school, has left me with a desire to help others to overcome challenges and set-backs. I have immersed myself in learning more about human psychology and how to facilitate positive change since this experiencing of struggling with my own mental-health. This has also led to completing a number of coaching qualifications, in order to build up a skills-set to support individuals.
Alongside my practical teaching and leadership experience in schools since 2009, I have written and published five books on education and wellbeing; I have a Masters in Educational Leadership, and I have hosted a range of educational podcasts. I currently run ‘Beyond Survival: The New Teacher Podcast’.
I am also married and a father of two young boys. I am a keen runner and have been a volunteer with Health in Mind, an Edinburgh based mental-health charity, for the past three years. I am a Scottish mental-health first aider.
